Heat-Stroke/Sun-Stroke

It is an emergency situation it can be a threat to life. Exposure to excessive heat can lead to heat exhaustion and heat-stroke. The skin feels dry and hot. The patient experiences headache, nausea and drowsiness. He is thirsty. He suffers dizziness. His breath is noisy. The temperature may rise to 104°F or 40°C. Dehydration occurs and there is a drop in blood pressure. The patient gets confused and may lapse into unconsciousness.

Tough physical activity in the sun leads to excessive fluid and salt loss. This is called heat exhaustion. Its symptoms are excessive sweating , muscle camps, sudden weakness and fatigue. The patient may experience blurred vision, dizziness, nausea and headache. The patient may collapse without treatment.

The moment it is felt that a person has suffered sun-stroke, he should be immediately shifted to a shady area or an air-conditioned room. The body should be cooled by wrapping it in sheets soaked in cold water. Encourage the patient to drink substantial amounts of water so that the loss of fluids in the body can made up. The wet sheets should be replaced with dry ones when the temperature some down to 101°F or 38°C in case of heat exhaustion a very similar procedure has to be followed. The patient be given diluted fruit juice with a pinch of salt every few minutes.

GLONOINE 200: • First remedy • Effects of sun-stroke. Confusion with giddiness. head is heavy but cannot lay it on a pillow. • Throbbing,congestive headache. • Surging of blood to head and heart. LACHESIS 200: • Sun-head ache. • Vertigo. • Flickering, dim vision. • Pale face. NAT CARB 200: • Chronic effects on sun-stroke. Great debility caused by summer heat. Exhaustion. • Anaemic and milky skin. • Headache from slightest mental exertion. • Vertigo from exposure to sun. SANGUINARIA (Mother tincture 10 drops every 30 minutes): • Sun headache, worse right side. • Veins in temples distended. • Pain begins in occipit , spreads upwards and settles over bones above eyes. VERATRUM ALB 200, 1000: • Head full. Throbbing arteries. • Cold sweat on forehead. • Nausea, vomiting. Loose, watery and copious stools.
